As a small business owner, it can be so difficult to schedule personal time. For wedding professionals, especially, this is a challenge. You don’t often have weekends off, and when you do… it’s time to rest! But, you may want to take a vacation as a wedding photographer without having to worry. Our team has put together a quick guide to help you make the most of your time off.
Let’s be honest: you are probably going to have to plan well in advance to take a break. This is because your calendar year as a wedding photographer often gets booked up one to two years in advance. This is especially true because couples tend to book their photographers early. You’ll want to block off a time for next year, preferably during off-season, that you can take a week or two off.
Did you know there are professionals dedicated to making your life easier? It’s true: virtual assistants for wedding photographers are a thing, and they’re awesome. Have a VA help manage your calendar, take over inquiries while you’re away, and so much more. This is a great way to make sure you can take a vacation without stressing about your business. Train them well in advance so you’re able to have time off as needed.
If you have a team of associates, this may be especially helpful. It won’t help you to relax knowing that there are weddings left to be edited. You’ll want to have a professional empty your queue while you’re on vacation. That will help you enjoy yourself and truly de-stress after a wild season.
A great way to prepare for your time off is to have your social media marketing pre-scheduled. Alternatively, if you use a VA, you can have them keep this up for you. Having a helping hand can also ensure any specific messaging you may want to get out or change while on the go. Sometimes, world events can cause a change in messaging, and you’ll want a helping hand to ensure your brand stays conscientious.
The best part about taking time off: no emails! You’ll want to set boundaries with clients well ahead of time. Leave your vacation dates in your email signature 1-2 months in advance. Set up an out-of-office email auto-reply that will let them know you will be unavailable. Be sure that your couples know who to reach in an emergency (hint: maybe a VA?) and when you’ll be back.
Freelancers can often feel guilt about taking time for themselves. However, it’s more than okay to take time off… It’s necessary! Be sure to start looking at dates for your vacation or days off today. Our team of virtual assistants for wedding photographers are at the ready to help keep your business running smoothly while you are away.
